Hello race fans
I've been running rFactor 1 since '06 with my old black Momo and have had virtually no problems. I upgraded to a G27 about 3 weeks ago and have spent more time trying to get this wheel to run right than actual track time. Originally, the FFB worked fine. The only issue was that the LED's weren't working. I did an unrelated Windows 7 reinstall the other day (same OS, just a reinstall)and that's when the problems started.
When I plug in my G27, it goes through it's start-up test and everything is fine. LED's come on, wheel goes back and forth, small dead zone, FFB is "tight". Now, when I load rF, the FFB instantly disappears and a 180 degree dead zone appears. (you can spin the wheel 180 degrees back and forth with your pinky finger until you hit resistance). You can feel the FFB disappear if you have your hand on the wheel as rFactor starts up. It's like the wheel goes limp. This happens, no matter what cars I have loaded. You can "drive" this way, but on track the wheel is squirrley on the straights and almost gets yanked out of your hand in the turns very unnaturally and it's no fun. It didn't do that before the Windows reinstall. Oddly enough, the LED's work when on track now, when they didn't before.
I'm running a brand new install of Windows 7 (twice). A brand new install of rFactor (I've tried both full and lite, twice). A 3 week old G27. I've tried all 5 usb's. I've tried reversing the FFB. I've tried with and without the logitech profiler. Double checked that everything was plugged in. I figure I'll wait to try any FFB mods (Leo's etc) until I get the wheel working right in the first place. I've tried the stock cars and modded ones. I have plenty of computing power (I get about 125 fps on track.). Oh, and I just took out my old Momo and plugged it in and it works just fine (no FFB issues at all).
If I go into G27 properties, it says everything is working properly and drivers are up to date. Obviously, something is not, somewhere. I downloaded fresh installs of both sizes of rFactor and a fresh Profiler (off of the Logitech website) when I used it. I assume that the working Momo would indicate that no rF files are corrupt? Is my new wheel screwed up already? Am I getting some sort of incompatible driver from Logitech somehow? I don't have any other racing sims, so I have nothing to compare to, to see if the wheel works there.
So... that's about all I can tell you, other than I may need a psychologist! It sucks so bad to have this bright shiny wheel sitting next to the computer and not being able to figure out how to use it. Am I missing something obvious? I don't get it and need some help. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance.
