I have reported you to the authorities. Don't bash Raikonnen Luis or Jerry or whatever your name is are you even a real person lopl.

I just watched qualifying on the bbc and I think I need to find a broadcaster with no-comments. in previous seasons it was ok with Coulthard and his mate and pit reporters babling away but now I don't hear the cars at all. and these guys just wont shut up for more then 2 seconds, bloody annoying already and we haven't even started yet.

Is there a no-comment broadcast anywhere in the world?

Yeah the car sounds are much less of a feature now but that allows for other sounds we aren't used to hearing. On Sky Sports they're doing alright, a few times they made a point of shutting up for some on board laps. It was really great to hear the cheer from the crowd so loud and clear when Ricciardo took provisional pole and again when Hamilton secured it.

Engine sounds are very tame compared to what we're used to. Someone locked up in I think FP3 and there was a massive tyre squeal, great to hear. Maybe wouldn't be able to hear that at all with older engine sounds. It's different and we lose the screaming of the old engines but i'm loving it so far, the engines are great in other aspects, they're excellent to watch the driver's fighting with, very twitchy in the dry, looks awesome and at least it increases the contribution of driver skill to overall performance of each car. The cars at the pinnacle of motorsport should be really demanding like this, can't wait to see some racing now. I wonder what the start will sound like!

Was at Friday free practise and yes the sound has gone. As they aproach they sound like clothes dryers with a bad bearing but once past you hear the burble and rumble..Cool to watch the twitching rears as nearly all of them struggle getting the power down , especially noticeable at T7 in the Williams and Vettel also seemed to struggle on the same exit more than Ricciardo which was interesting

'to me that sounds horrible' lol:
That of course was Alan Jones , and yes they would to someone who sat in front of the beasts of his era
.

Didn't mean I don't agree with him, they do sound horrible lol

There are some upsides though, it's nice for a change for tv viewing at least. Will wait and see how I feel about a whole season of it after this race :)

I dont like the sounds, I hate it actually. But I could be ok if cars sounded like it is at the limits of the engine. now they sound like engine is on idle mod which irritates me.

Trackside they don't sound that bad just running less than 100 decibels compared to the 150 of previous cars

The sounds are not that bad when they are in high rpm, but they rarerly are to save fuel and also as they are still quite carefull

If what I understood is right from what I have read here and there, they still wont need to up high revs to save fuel once they know the cars better because of the turbo engines. apperantly these engines produce the same amount of power at around 12000 rpm with what they produce at 15000 rpm. So....

didnt know that

3 seconds......they gave 3 seconds of non-chatter in the entire race over at bbc. glad I recorded it so I could fast forward the race.
For me it feels like being detached from the race, might as well mute the whole thing and watch cars race around in silent.

I've just send a complaint to the queen of England. see how they like that.

Sky has this option to mute voices .

On the main feed? If so how do you do it? I haven't a clue! I was using the on boards from the red button section that have on board sound only, but only in quali and practice. Coverage was great on sky so stuck to the main feed for the whole race. Loving all the sounds we get to hear now and i'm not missing the high intensity of the older engines, it's a lot more interesting on tv:

Team radio chat is so much clearer
Tyres squealing under lock up
I'm sure I heard tyres chirping under hard braking too
Also convinced I heard one of the cars bottoming out at high speed (might have been Magnussen)
Cheers from the crowd

Pitlane is amazingly quiet now:
The whistle when a car enters pitlane
Tyre noise when cars leave their pitbox
Wheel guns were very clear during one pit, lets you hear how fast and in sync tyres are being changed

I really hope they exploit the newly available sounds as much as possible, now that they don't get drowned out by the engines.

Some great racing too, lots more side by side action and chances to overtake from drivers mistakes, fuel saving hopefully won't influence the racing much. They should do away with DRS it's not needed at all, artificial rubbish. Season should be good viewing but Merc are way ahead just now so I guess they're expected to run away with it.

Ye the tyres squealing are awesome, also Button had a pitstop that took 2.8 seconds. To my knowledge, that is one of the fastest i have heard of, as last year very fast pit stop meant 3.5 seconds (if am not wrong)

Kimi seems to be really struggeling with the new braking system, as he was locking up basically every lap in multiple occasions, he even locked up slowing down into pitlane, and than first lap out of it. Now, whoever has tried ISIs FISI knows that even a small lockup means screwing the tyres so bad that it basically costs you couple laps of normal wear. (i know that this years tyre compounds are differend, but i dont suppose the tyre wear would be largerly reduced when the grip is largerly increased this year)

i saw Fernando also locking up quite often, but that was quite usual for him even last year when trail braking.

I really liked this race and admitibly, it wasnt packed with action and explosions, as many would like, but many interesting things happened and the results are very sattisfying, altho i do feel sorry for Riccardio, and also for Massa (It was now Kobayashis fault but i still wish Massa finished) Williamses are strong this year and even Bottas would be probably ahead of Alonso if he didnt hit the freaking wall in first part of the race. Well, hes a F1 newbie, he ll be alright later on.

horrible horrible horrible, F1 has finally lost that spark which has been waning for years anyway. The cars are pig ugly, the sounds are absolutley shockingly bad and Bernie is still there ruining it all. I can now officially reveal to the world that I wont be bothering with this shambles of a car racing genre anymore, so long F1 :(

LOL! Yeah well, so long then.

I'm ecstatic after yesterday's race! F1 hasn't been this exciting since 2009 and I'm loving every second of it.

The cars just look awesome and they drive like beasts. SO much torque, I mean, getting freakin' wheelspin out of fourth gear?! Looks amazing.
Finally these cars are challenging to drive, and it results in a spectacle not seen in many years. Magnussen getting completely sideways in Q3 at 250 kph..!

The sound of the engines is perfect imo. Raw, rumbling, dirty. Just perfect. And like others have said, crazy cool with all the other sounds that are suddenly audible.

This will be a season to remember I'm sure.
I just don't get it: these past few "Vettel seasons" have been so static and down right boring compared to what we're about to witness.
Yet so many people get their panties in a knot because of the new engine sounds and the new look of the cars. Doesn't seem to me that this has much to do with the quality of the racing.

But yeah, your loss. I can't wait 'till Malaysia!

The fastest pitstop i saw in the race was 2.2 seconds by ferrarri (if i remember the team correctly), i think with Alonso. Last year i remember seeing at least 2.3 seconds a few times by red bull. They hold the unofficial record of something like 2.05 seconds for a pitstop and commenting that sub 2 seconds is humanly possible but that everything would have to come together perfectly.

Edit: Scratch the 2.05 seconds. Red bull did a 1.923 second in the austin race last year with Mark Webber: http://www.redbull.com/uk/en/motorsports/f1/stories/1331621211398/red-bull-racing-pitstop-record

I'm looking forward to the next race, & don't mind the new sounds really, (though it does sound as though the engines have all gone into "safe mode") but now I like hearing so clearly the pit-to-car transmissions, the tyre-squeal & the crowds cheering -never used to hear any of that. Hopefully the race-commentators will all calm down a bit as the newness becomes the norm

It's the future guys.. Apparently some local governments/councils were complaining about the noise of the old cars, as they were having complaints from residents. The turbos have now effectively cut off the high pitched screaming the old engines used to make, so GP's can continue in or near built up areas..

But boy oh boy.. it's like watching the "Race of the Uglies"

It's like each designer sat down and read the new rules about the nose-height, then thought: "..I'm going to come up with the ugliest possible solution I can""

& you know what - they all succeeded

lets make a distinction: The current regulation provides a challange to teams, an exciting watch for fans, a joyful (at least) "2 hours" for spectators, an oppurtunity to become a world champion for drivers other than vettel and lots of other things that can make people enjoy motorsports.

But is this Formula 1? No, I dont think so. There were and are other series that provides better racing than formula one in the past and today. If we think this is the future and we should accept it, which actually makes sense, then we are already late to move on to Formula E! F1 is dead for some years for some sensible reasons, it is just too profitable for some guys to declare it.

For me its not that big of a deal clinging on to whatever my mind says F1 'should be' or what others claim it to be.

First and foremost its a series with top drivers battling it out. I can have as much fun watching that with a grid of Clio's as with F1 cars. so I just reset my mind and tried to go in blank, just for the racing.

Plus I kinda like the push for new technology. its a bit of a shame all this new stuff we don't actually get to see much apart from the torque so for viewers its kinda lost what's actually happening but interesting nonetheless.

I do get the sense though that much of the fun stuff we had seen sunday was due to the total unpredictable nature of the new rules and unfinished testing.
I don't think we should root too much for that because then you might as well change rules randomly on a regular basis and see what happens.

Agreed mostly apart from what you said about the drivers. Come on, everybody says this is the golden age for pay drivers!

Ok ok, not all drivers. but quite a few of them nonetheless and I reckon the current F1 will only make that more apparent.

The Kimi/Alonso hookup is going to be pretty interesting for starters :)

I absolutely love the technology and sound of turbos, so that part I'm not too upset about...then again I loved the V12, V10 and V8 cars.
I'm just a 'petrol-head'.
love internal combustion engines.
My one wish would have been for the FIA not to screw with the fuel flow rate and volume.
We could have had some all out racing this year.
Now I fear we will have guys struggling to drive just fast enough to stay ahead, while trying not to go flat out for fear of running short.
Timed fuel limits, much like artificial tire degradation should not be an influence in racing.

I think, if the main reasons for these changes is to go "green" as much as possible, then fuel limit and fuel flow limit must be there to make sure the main aims are met. Especially fuel flow limit...

That's where it gets 'tricky'.
F1 will never be green....ever.
While I understand it's a complex balancing act between wanting to appear green vs racing cars, the FIA have to understand that at the end of the day environmentalist don't give a darn...unless they quit racing completely.
I'm not advocating that obviously.
I'm saying they (F1) have to make up their mind if they want racing for true F1 fans or car management for no one...including the people they're trying most to persuade.

Quite a difference in sound.
I read that the Aussie organizers have sued F1 for breach of contract. Apparently, there is a sound clause in the contract, and these cars didn't match, or meet up to the level of sound in the contract. Bernie is said to have agreed.

I noticed the lack of ear protection in the second half of that clip.

Their both a joke. I remember sitting trackside at the Kyalami GP's in the 70's without ear protectors and able to carry out a conversation. F1 isn't about the volume of the noise, it's the racing, and the pursuit of technology. I hated the high pitch scream of the 00's onwards, it wasn't an enjoyable sound, quite the opposite. Painful. I've seen kids going berserk with the pain, and parents having to take them home when the race has barely started because of this. Hardly a family friendly environment - it is now though, just like it used to be in the old days.

Funny thing is that Tour de France probably causes as much pollution as whole F1 calendar.
Millions of people go visit that bicycle race.. and no, most of them don't travel by bus or bicycle :p

I like the new sounds. Also those cars looked fun to drive. Most of the drivers said they didn't have to save fuel but could push pretty hard.

It looked like there was opportunities to pass without DRS now but the track wasn't just good for overtaking. I see the racing will only get better.
