Strange acceleration/braking issue with Logitech G25

Hi all,
i am new to this forum and you all are my last hope.
I have a problem with the assigment of my G25 wheel since a few days. Very often when i start rfactor, the game shows me in the settings section the red brake and accelerator bars up to 30%, which are fixed in this position. I can press both pedals then, no bar moving to see, both are fixed. I have to assume acceleration and brake pedal then and everything works fine...until next game start. BUT clutch, wheel itself and button assignment are allways ok, it´s without exeption allways just Brake and acceleration. So i am not sure if this is a controller-settings problem of rfactor or if even my G25 has a bug now.
This failure is hard to find out, because it happens not all the time.
I happens, that i do five rfactor starts in series and everything works fine, but it also happens, that i do five gamestarts and then i have to assume the pedals 3 times.
To me it looks like a radom failure but the first time i mentioned this behaviour was the day after the last big update of Microsoft patches this week...
What do you think and what can i do to solve this?

My PC: AMD Phenom X4 965, ATI 5850, 8 GB Ram. Logitech G25

Does the pedals work properly in other games? If so your G25 doesn't seem to be the problem.
 
Just tried another newer game (Ferrari Virtual Academy) and i had the same issue there: acceleration and brake are "frozen"...
So it seems to be a G25 problem?
But is isn´t, as i said before, all the time. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not.
Thermic problem?
 
Most likely the potentiometers are worn out/dirty !?!? I had similar problem with my G25 pedal set. I could clarify the problem with the Data Acquisition Plugin and Motec, where I could identify jitters under full throttle and/or breaking. First I started cleaning them every two - three months. As frequency raised to every two weeks I decided to by one of those Fanatec Club Sport Pedal Set ... Its brake pedal is fitted with a load cell and the throttle/clutch are connectionless potentiometers based on induction current ... since then I've never ever had any problems with unintended breaking/throttling ... well at least when I am sober ;)

I also checked for some potentiometer replacement to my G25 pedal set, but I actually couldn't find a satisfactory solution for my needs.

So, try to clean them first, because the potentiometers built-in to the G25 pedal set has an open housing design .

EDIT: Of course you should check your cabling, USB connection (socket/plug) or any other possible hardware malfunction which could cause a problem like this...

It could be also a DirectX issue, or an USB port one, or a Logitech driver corruption, hard to figure.

In your shoes i would

1) update your DirectX

2) try a different USB port

3) uninstall and reinstall the Logitech driver

BTW, i have a DFP and i tried everything in order to fix an annoying problem: i turn on the PC, the wheel calibrates by itself, but it seems not be recognized by XP. The issue happens randomly, not everytime.
I have to unplug and plug again the wheel and it works.

I called by phone also the Logitech support, they adviced me to try in safe mode, so to understand if my system suffers any conflict with the Logitech driver, but no luck.
I guess the ultimate solution is C:/format :), but atm i can live with the issue
 
I will see what i can do...
I made a total backup of my pc in the middle of August with Acronis, maybe i restore this one and see if the behaviour still exists.

I had some weird calibration issues with my G25 when I switched to win7, and this seemed to solve it. Kind of wordy, but pretty simple actually.
You might try this:

1. Click Start. Click Run. Type cmd and press OK.
2. Type "set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3. Type "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1" (without quotation marks) and Press Enter.
4. Type "start devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) and click press Enter.
5. Click View. Click Show hidden devices.

1. Go to start menu > My Computer > Properties.
2. On the left click Advanced System Settings.
3. You will now see a System Properties window automatically opened to the Advanced Tab, Just click the Environment Variables button located at the bottom.
4. Under User Variables click New
5. Create a Variable name called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices With a Variable Valve of 1. Click OK when Done.
6. You will now see this entry appear under your User Variables at the top, Once you confirm it has been entered correctly just click OK on the Environment Variables Window then again on the System Properties Window.
7. Open your Start-Menu again and right-click Computer and open Manage
8. Select Device Manager found on the left, then at the top click View > Show Hidden Devices.

From here, you can now expand either Human Interface Devices, Universal Serial Bus controllers, or Unknown Devices. You will see both full contrast images (currently plugged in devices) and faded images (built enumeration profiles not in active use). I'd remove Logitech entries for any wheels you have plugged in (right click-uninstall OR just delete them), unplug the wheel, then replug in to a different port. If you get unknown devices, you can determine if it's a Logi product if the Hardware ID (Under Details and pulldown menu if you doubleclick a device) has a "046d" string in the VID_PID area.

When you unplug/replug the wheel after doing this, it will force windows to create a whole new driver profile for the USB enumeration that just occured, which can and will resolve many of the issues listed in here. It may also resolve the off-center calibration according to the software, as the calibration in this device is determined by Windows and DirectInput. If the product goes to dead center after doing it's spinning dance, then the hardware is calibrated. It's possible that even after calibration, the Windows has incorrect calibration data within DirectInput. To clear this out, repeat the above steps BUT don't unplug/replug the wheel, go to the Logi download page for either the G25 or G27, download the Clear Calibration utility, run that, then NOW unplug and replug the wheel. Clear Calibration will remove additional information that Windows stores as it's own calibration in DirectInput.

How's that for a wall of text? Also may not resolve some of the stranger system issues (bad permissions on the registry comes to mind), but should clear out most of the problems.
 
Just another one ... USB-Device-Interference !?!? It can happen that e.g. an USB headset (and/or a different USB device) might mess up the whole USB bus. So try to ONLY hook up your G25 and check out if it works fine. Then see if you can reproduce that misbehavior by attaching the other USB devices one after another ...

On the other hand, when you plug/unplug USB devices pretty often to many different locations e.g. USB1=G25 - unplug G25 - USB1=WebCAM - unplug WebCAM - USB1=iPOD - unplug iPOD - USB1=G25 and so on isn't that helpful for keeping the USB device table nice and clean ...
 
There is another thing i found out:
I start rfactor and the pedals are not assigned
I press "ALT" and "TAB" to get to the desktop
Now i start the DXTweak2 Tool and the pedals are even work fine.
But when i then go back to game by clicking the rf icon, what normally goes swimmingly, a message box appears with my home language (german), and it says basically:" rFactor is not functioning any more"
Rfactor crashes then...

So, but the DxTweak2 Tool allways showes me working pedals, it happens, that i boot my PC, start DxTweak2, everything works fine, quit the tool, start rfactor and have the pedal sh** then.
Don´t know what going on there...
 
I was experiencing strange things going on with my G25 a while ago, I solved the problem and figured out what caused it.
What caused it was installing windows with the wheel plugged in which prompted windows to install a generic driver, that driver then caused a clash with the Logitech driver. (this will also happen if you plug the wheel in before running the driver installation)

This is how I fixed it (from Logitech forums, It refers to G27 but applies to all wheels.)

On the wheel misenumerating: There's a couple solutions to this. Chances are we have a two-pronged things to handle: bad enumeration profiles in the device manager that are chewing up the wheel's attempts to register it as a full G27, and that's also affecting some of the people's configurations of the wheel. Windows keeps a "ghost" enumeration of devices to speed up the USB enumeration process when devices are plugged in... If these enumerations are corrupted, they can cause all sorts of voodoo.



Since I'm lazy, I'll just copy/paste other's steps instead of typing them here:

thanks a lot for your extensive help. I effort my gray brain cells (learning english in school is long long ago...) but i hope, i did it right. At the end of that, after starting the logitech profiler software, a DFP Wheel was showed. So at this point i unplugged the wheel, deleted the profiler software, rebooted my machine, installed the profiler software again and after the request i plugged in the wheel (different USB Port now...), the wheel was detected correct, the profiler shows me now the G25. Everything works fine now. I hope, that this will go on for now. But i can´t be shure at this time...will do some testings over the days but i will give a feedback definitively in the upcoming week.
Again a big Thanks to all, was the right way to register myself to ISI forums, the help i got here is very professional.

Hi all,
it happens again two times in the last three days.
I can´t see any causal connection...sometimes it happens and sometimes not.
Talked to Logitech an will wait what they say, i give annother feedback then.


Edit:
Logitech got some system files from me, but they couldn´t find any problems.
So i wrote back an image from August 2010 and up today, i hadn´t this issue anymore, runs fine for three days now.
The reason why it happens is still unclear...
