Spontaneous PC Crash While Playing

cryptopian

I've not run rF for a good few months because of uni and things getting in the way. Now it's all over, I've come back to it and it's developed a habit of spontaneously crashing the computer. What seems to happen is that I play for around 10-20 minutes and the computer spontaneously switches off. No hanging, no freezing, just straight off with no warning. The first time this happened, it rebooted in a recovery mode, which concerned me somewhat, but not the second time. When I used to play it regularly, I had no such problems. I've not really changed anything major on my computer since.

If anybody has any idea what it is that causes this, perhaps a general computer issue, that would be excellent. I can't find anybody else with this problem, so I fear it may be specific to my computer. If it helps, I'm running Windows 7 on a Dell laptop.

Edit: searched for people with the problem generally, and overheating seems to be a trend. Will report back with results from cleaning the laptop out.

Edit 2: Actually surprised myself with how clean the laptop is. Unfortunately means there's nothing to try and fix.

Try running it just on the lead with no battery fitted. Check the charge socket isn't loosening up.

As you say first guess is heat. Try running the details lower or perhaps capping frames.

I did a few things, including your suggestion to try and stop overheating and it seems to work! Thanks :D
