Cannot choose "overcast" as weather condition anymore

Gerdoner

Hi all,
since yesteray I have a weird problem with rFactor. I can't seem to load a track as overcast:

- In the race details screen it says the weather conditions are sunny. Now, if I change that to overcast and load the track, it still loads the track as sunny (as seen in the session informations tab).

- If I change the track to overcast in the race details tab, switch the tab to say "select opponents" tab and switch back to the race details tab, it changed the overcast to sunny again.

I just tried a vanilla installation of rF lite, but I still have the problem.

Hope someone could help me out of this, I want to drive on overcast tracks again :S

No one's got an idea what might be causing this problem?
Also posted about it here, it would be great if anyone could help me :S

Player File
[ Race Conditions ]
QUICK Weather="0" // Random/season/sunny/etc.
MULTI Weather="0"
-----------------
"0" = sunny
"1" = overcast
"2" = random
"3" = ?...etc
notice the "projected conditions/current conditions" and ambient and track temperatures do change in-game (track loaded) [race settings] tab.
i guess the track has to be setup for the sky to transition visually.
**remember to restart the game for .plr edits to take effect.**

If I change it to
QUICK Weather="1" // Random/season/sunny/etc.
MULTI Weather="1"
i can only select overcast as a weather condition
If I change it to
QUICK Weather="0" // Random/season/sunny/etc.
MULTI Weather="0"
I can only select sunny as a weather condition
If I select it to "2" or "3" it changes back to "1" automatically with the same effect as written above :S

with game closed:
edit the plr, quick weather "0", save it.
launch the game, ignore the initial race settings area, load circuit... weather is always sunny.

launch the game, ignore the initial race settings area, load circuit... weather is random, exit circuit and reload circuit, the conditions will change "randomly". (see image)

can't explain why the plr value resets on game close, but it does... can't explain why the race settings/weather toggle doesn't function properly.
your question was how to make it overcast, this shows a way to make it possible.

OK, got that working... but why can't I just choose what weather I want in the race details tab before loading the track? :/
I know it used to work :S

No it doesn't, it doesn't change the sky texture?

i'm told the sky does have the ability to transition as the weather changes, probably like you, no builders even knew the random option was possible so they never attempted to create sky's for the transitioning effect.
most track builders don't realize a sky can rotate either, passing clouds are pretty cool but no one implements the effect.
check out limerock park for a preview, one of only two tracks featuring a moving sky... jacksonville roadcourse is the other.

Gerdoner, I have exactly the same problem. It just switches back to 'sunny'.

So what is the issue? Is it a texture or naming problem or both? Can it be rectified?

I guess not, I find it quite laughable that something relatively simple was forgotten or not implemented

Err?
Nobody forgot anything, it's juts a bug or a program causes problems with rF which doesn't allow me or others to switch the weather conditions anymore :S

There's no difference from "overcast" and "sunny" it only concerns to the ambient colors chosen in each case. Not even the skybox is different.

Yes the "bug" is in rF, everyones rF, almost everything is there to change the sky texture according to the selected conditions, however the important text operator or values appear to be not implemented. I guess you'd call it a bug coz it does bug at lot of people.

That's the point, it should! There are overcast textures and it should source those when overcast is selected, the skybox stays the same and a different sky texture is selected but it doesn't! :confused:

I find it kind of hard to believe that my mind was playing tricks with me all the time... cause when I selected overcast it really was overcast, and when I selected sunny there was no clouds whatsoever (I used custom sky textures)... so as I said I know that it used to work

Someone did say that they thought it worked in the previous version but not in the update? Maybe staff could shed smoe light on this?

I'm afraid there's a mistake here.

A unique Skybox is composed by five DDS textures. (SKY00, SKY01, SKY02, SKY03 and SKY03). Those pictures you attached is from a unique skybox. IN this case, the attached SKY02.dds will replace SKY01.dds as the time day goes by within the same object. Yes, the second one has more clouds, but neither is from a "Overcast Skybox", both are from the default skybox in Shared folder. The amount of clouds is a coincidence.

I've never seen untill now a track with bares more than one SKY.GMT (the skybox itself). In addition, the same GMT is not allowed to load different textures. So, the only way that game could create a overcast sky is by a hardcoded replacing from the track's author five SKY_.dds by to other five nubby default textures.

As far as I know, the "overcast" switch replaces the ambient colours (and, yes, it could change the sky colour, but not its DDS file which is being loaded).

I'm not distrusting any you guys, I'm just trying to understand the question a bit better.

May you point me the name of the track which you clearly had this difference between chose "overcast" and "sunny" before track's loading? (remember to check the starting time was the same for both)

Thanks

Hm, I never had a track where it didn't work. The sky was overcast, the track temps were lower (iirc) and the track was a bit darker aswell :S

so you are saying it did work before?, which version rf and which tracks?

No, I would have thought someone would know something but I guess not?

Don't want to sound desperate, but it just drives me nuts that I can't choose a feature that worked for me in the last 6+ years (bought rF the month it came out).
Anyone got an idea what else I could change / test to get the weather selection working again?!
