Ford driver David Reynolds has set a new qualifying record in a V8 Supercar around Mount Panorama.

Reynolds was one of three cars that broke Craig Lowndes' four-year-old time during the final practice session on Thursday for the Bathurst 1000.

His lap of 2:06.3714 was nearly half-a-second clear of Lowndes' 2:06.8012, set during practice in 2010.

Defending Bathurst champion Mark Winterbottom was second fastest in the session, also beating the record, as did Holden driver Fabian Coulthard.

Records had been tipped to fall in the lead-up to this weekend's Great Race following a $2 million resurfacing of the iconic public road circuit.

Well deserved, nice guy David

Yeah a new fastest was predicted with the new resurfacing, a surprise it was from David Reynolds though.

Practice 5 underway.

Practice 4 was down to a 3 second spread. :)

Steve Owen and Luke Youlden bettered Craig's benchmark.

Top ten tomorrow should be a hoot, who will throw caution to the wind to claim fastest V8 on the mountain. ;)

2.05 done and dusted . go Frosty

Like to see Stevie O get the top step on Sunday . nice bloke and good instructor

They are looking pretty loose over the top. wait until they do it on worn rubber. yikes!!

P.S. No TV here and only 100 miles from the Mountain. ( how sad )

Down to 2.8 spread nice.

10 drivers under Craig's bench and he is not one of them. lol

Hope you get to watch Sunday at least. very nervous cars lots of oversteer atm . 3 clicks of rear wing please ;)

Reynolds car might not be so quick anymore. clouted the wall hard avoiding Toad approaching skyline. edit ..add Wincup to the bent car list

What a finish - edge of the seat stuff. Loved the celebrations at the end - very emotional stuff.

Can't find a nicer bunch of blokes to fill the podium with. Brilliant stuff, this race had it ALL.
