How to increase qualifying and race speed of the autopilot?

jamesoj

Hi guys,

I normally enter a race and press I (to toggle AI driver control) and sit back and watch

Recently though I have become a bit annoyed that the AI driver/autopilot does not follow the drivers .rdc file in terms of how competitive it should be. e.g. Lewis Hamilton (autpiloted) will be 1-3 seconds a lap slower than Raikonnen, Massa and Alonso , even though I edited Hamiltons talent file to have a higher speed and equal race skill

I have checked the .rfm file and the talent directory is correct

I have only been using rfactor for a couple of days, so I am sure I am doing something wrong. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks

So, you´re using rfactor for a couple of days and you already know what is rfm´s, talent files, rdc files, isi fóruns, AI control, etc?
Nice, others spent much more time finding a way of "watch races"...... (If this was Mortal Kombat it would say.....irony wins).

I don't just watch, in other situations I let the AI take over a few laps just for a bit of a break

Is there anything that can be done to increase the autopilots speed?

You did find rfm-, talent-,... files but didn't find the AI-strength slider in the Settings/Difficulty screen?

I've fiddled around with that a lot and it tweaks the strength of the other ai drivers, doesnt seem to have an effect on the AI autopilot on mine

I have it on 100% at the moment

Not sure I understood OP wish but: I agree as sometimes I just want to watch a race letting my car auto-piloted, for example to discover a track or watch TV cam. It's boring to see my car as the exact same slider level than all other AI cars and they all stay in line and you nearly always have the same position at start than at the end. Could be funny to have a way to just change the user car vs other AIs (a second slider or through ini/json edit?). Should be pretty easy to implement I guess and could create some more challenging and enjoyable to watch race.

Well in a nutshell I want to be able to tune the AI autopilot so that it goes as fast as the drivers .rdc

When I picked another driver Hamilton was consistently on a similar pace and sometimes quicker than the other top drivers, but when I drove as hamilton and toggled AI control, the pace dropped off

Anyway on fifa I will try new tactics occasionally and set my team to autoplay by itself so I can get the best out of the players - on rfactor I'm trying to make the qualifying and race as competitive as possible - while enjoying the realistic camera views and graphics :)

Well I'm kind out of topic then, my "request" is more basic, forgive me ;)

Some bird sings me a song.....a song of loyality.....a song where all the cheaters were killed by a bactéria........where all the noobs sleep an endless nap.

It seems as if i've had a little misunderstanding. Jamesoj, you only want to increase the speed of your own AI driver when you give your car to the AI-control and not the AI's speed in general, right?

I don't race with AI, so i never dealed with that.

But when you just want to lean back to watch a race and enjoy the graphics..., what does it matter if you are 1st, 4th or last? :D

Maybe there is another option needed in the menue, called "AI-Race" and some options like "My AI-Driver", "Start from Position", "Finish as....". ;)

But, is it really so interesting to see an AI Driver competing?
I always thought it is the intention to increase the own skills/competitiveness, to use a Racing-Sim. :)

Thanks for the advice I will take a look :)

I do most of my competitive racing online, but offline I'm trying to get it to be that - the Ferraris and Mclarens are close but don't always finish in the same order. At the moment the ferrari always has the race edge even if one of the McLarens was faster in qualifying. Is there a vehicle 'talent' file if you know what I mean?

I sorta feel the game is more enjoyable if the AI are more realistic, instead of repeating the same lap times over and over. So yeah I was just wondering if there was a way to tweak the overall speed of the car with the AI driving it.

Thanks again for your input :)
