Technical question for Rally mod

Riva-Style

Hello everyone, I'm quite new here so let me briefly introduce myself (since I wasn't able to find a proper topic): I'm a 26-year-old italian guy, into rFactor since 2008 and into rF modding since 2013. I work as a software developer in real life, and a kind of a factotum in a league (RSR Gaming Racing Team) and a modding group (Virtual Rallycross Championship) since I edit and touch almost everything.

In RSR Gaming I'm working since April 2013 on a Rally mod. We're currently running a Rally championship that's getting close to its end, and I'm already at work for the 2016 championship: I want to insert a Ford Fiesta R5, and here comes my question.

As you can see from this video,

the display works in two different modes: let's call them the Road and Stage modes.

The Road mode is the one you can see at the beginning, with all the infos like RPM, Oil Temp, Water Temp, Fuel Level and such, while the Stage mode is activated by a button on the lower console and only displays the gear one has inserted. I wanna try to replicate this behaviour ingame, so my question is: is it possible to catch an event (i.e. the time starting when crossing the start line) and make a material change its texture depending on it? If so, is there a tool or something that can let me do it?

..... and make a material change its texture depending on it?.....

For that i would say "No".
But you eventually (untested) can (mis)use the headlight function to make it work in the wanted way, by switching the light on or off.
But you would "loose" the headlight then, which means that it would e.g shine when stage-mode-display is active and not shine, when road-mode-display is active. Or you leave it off completely.

is your rally mod available for download?
I'd like to try.......

OK, I'll figure out what I can do... thanks anyway ;)
