Question to the ISI-Dev-Team regarding text file encodings ...

Frank Geyer

Hi there,

it sounds like a silly question, but I really have troubles to determine the native text file encodings for rFactor (1) like .veh, .hdv, .ini, .gdb files and so on.

When it comes to Windows' onboard native editor "notepad.exe" based on ISI's rFactor download version 1.255G, basically everything is saved in ANSI encodings, showing me when I say "Save as ...".

However, when it comes to "notepad++.exe" encodings are different sometime for the same file compared to Windows' "notepad.exe" like ANSI or UTF-8 or UTF-8 without BOM. This might be a problem because of "notepad++.exe's" guessing algorithm for determining the text file encodings ... !?!?

Long story short: What is THE native/desired/expected encoding for text files in rFactor (1.255) ... ?

1. ANSI (none UNICODE = Codepage 1252)
2. UTF-8
3. UTF-8 without BOM

### My guess would be ANSI ###

Thank you very much in advanced!

Cheers
Frank

I know this wont answer your question 100% but I have used Notepad since day 1. When I open any of the files you mention, when I click save as by default its ANSI. That is something I've never looked at before because it just worked.

Hi Free,

you're right. But anyway - thanks for sharing your experience :)

Cheers
